Schools across the Noosa Shire are utilising their real time energy data to learn about energy efficiency through Zero Emissions Noosa’s exciting initiative Race to Zero.
The program utilises a mix of direct curriculum teaching with week by week lesson plans and a gamified approach which shows students how their real time energy decisions impact on emissions.
ZEN President Vivien Griffin said, “Schools are high energy consumers and the chance to curb wasteful energy use is important to the goal of reducing emissions across Noosa shire.“
With peak holiday season upon us, we will all be aware of the pressure on our roads as car numbers swell and competition for limited parks intensifies.

In a week leading up to World Car Free Day on 22 September Noosa residents and visitors pledged to swap out at least one car trip, together saving over 5000 kilometres of car travel and putting about 1 tonne less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, Going by bike or bus were the most popular alternatives with a few choosing to scooter, carpool or enjoy the Noosa Ferry.
Noosa Council has funded a new independent service by Zero Emissions Noosa (ZEN) to help local businesses rein in rising energy costs and make the most of new technology.

On a recent Friday morning you may have seen a Council bus around the streets of Tewantin, Cooroy, Noosaville, Noosa Heads and Peregian Beach. Noosa’s Community Garden sits peacefully on the hill at Wallace Park in Noosaville, nestled behind the library and leisure centre. Depending on the time of year it’s an eclectic mix of fruit trees, vines, bushes and sprouting crops. Members meet every Friday morning for a working bee, which ends with a group morning tea and sharing of any produce harvested.

Here in Noosa Shire, Zerro Emissions Noosa Inc (ZEN), together with EcoTekk Noosa, has secured a Queensland Government grant to set up the first e-bike library in Queensland.

The events facilitated by ZEN Inc brought together community members in Noosaville and Cooroy to discuss priorities and strategies to reduce car usage and transport emissions in the Noosa Shire.
