Zero Emissions Noosa, Inc - Advisors to the Board

The Zero Emissions Noosa Inc. board is made up of volunteers who are enthusiastic about assisting the Noosa shire community to reach zero net greenhouse gas emissions.

They bring a variety of experience to their roles – some have interests in reducing emissions in the electricity and sustainable transport sectors through the use of renewable energy, while others contribute their communications, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and government relations, governance and operations, finance and fundraising and behaviour change experience.

Meet our current Advisors to the Board

Susannah Yeung

Susannah is an experienced consultant with a demonstrated history of creating value and driving change for good. Leading through the lens of brand, purpose & ESG, her focus is to solve business challenges through sustainable strategy, design, innovation, stakeholder engagement and communications. Susannah has worked with national and international brands, government organisations, social enterprises and not-for-profits, including the United Nations Development Program, TEDx, Girl Guides and CSIRO. She is also a contributor to the UN Global Compact Network Australia's industry education course "Greenwashing: Time to stop the spin cycle".

Don Parry

Don has a long-term commitment to Sustainability generally and in particular Energy, Water and Waste efficiency.  After a high-level rugby coaching career, Don found his learnings as a coach could be applied to behaviour change more widely.

Don helped the formation of Cleantech Industries Sunshine Coast and, with three others, wrote and taught TAFE’s Diploma in Sustainability. He helped two enterprises win Queensland Government Sustainability Awards and worked around the Queensland Government’s ecoBiz program for many years.

Don was also a part of another Queensland Government project called ‘Clean Growth Choices’ helping six Queensland Council areas decide their ‘clean’ future. Partners in the project included the University of South Queensland, James Cook Uni, CSIRO and the Eco-Efficiency Group. His speciality was eco-efficiency and behaviour change, and now, in semi-retirement near Pomona, he aspires to help the Noosa community as a voluntary advisor.

Maria ayub

Maria is a graduate of Architecture with a Master of Sustainability focused on regional development. She has experience applying sustainable practices locally and overseas in residential, educational, and commercial projects, along with urban planning and the built environment. Maria is passionate about helping communities transition to low-carbon futures and promoting sustainable design solutions at both building and urban scales. As a Board Advisor, she brings her skills and enthusiasm to support ZEN’s mission of a zero-emissions Noosa.

 

Ad/prof Mick Millington

Mick is a systems engineering practitioner and is legally qualified.  He is an Adjunct Professor in USC Engineering.  He has greater than 50 years’ experience and still active in Defence systems in Air, Land, Sea, Special Forces, recognised in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information, Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering domains. Mick additionally has experience with Border Protection Service, and Antarctic Division in capability development.

He has held senior executive and engineering appointments including the position of Chief Engineer and Principal Scientist and worked for a period at the International Telecommunication Union, a UN agency. Academic Qualifications include PhD Electrical Engineering, Juris Doctor, MBA Technology Management, Master Commercial Law, Aviation and Maritime, Bachelor Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communications Certificate and Electrical Tradesman. He is semi-retired a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland, Fellow of Institute of Engineers Australia and Fellow in Innovation, Creativity and Capital with the University of Texas.

He conducts training in the aquaculture aspects of Permaculture and operated a property on the Sunshine Coast with his wife Janet winning an Australia Day award for the environment.  His PhD included working in the Solar Laboratories in the UNSW and has applied his experience in implementing a solar farm on the SC property. Currently he is contributing to a Rotary project in PNG that intends providing medical facilities to a remote village.  In conjunction with Janet, they intend training teachers in Outdoor Classrooms and village elders in Permaculture with a focus on energy and water sustainability.

Doug Webb

Doug is a local business person, who has been involved with the evolution of Noosa over several decades.

He brings a mix of experience and knowledge gained from involvement in major projects and participation with community groups, that enables him to speak with authority on the progression of the unique character of Noosa, and advise on preservation strategies.

Always being a passionate promoter of the conservationist ethos, balanced with a strong commercial practicality, he is currently utilising additive manufacturing and other technologies to further his goals of promoting the circular economy in construction, and in the community generally.
