Submission: Peregian Beach Energy Hub

Peregian Beach Energy Hub

Project description:

The Peregian Beach Energy Hub aims to create an “energy hub” at the Rufous Street precinct, Peregian Beach. The project aims to initially increase solar capacity (at the existing community house and the new community house), complemented by the establishment of possible battery storage within the precinct* or Swap & Go Battery Hub, and EV charging facilities.

The project aims to develop a test site for a virtual embedded network amalgamated in one precinct. In line with Energex’s demand response regulation, the virtual embedded network is a large power user where, in the future, Council could use the excess power generated from the Energy Hub to offset, for example, street lighting in the immediate area.

This project will “showcase” the “Smart Biosphere” to Noosa community and other key stakeholders e.g. the State Government, demonstrating the use of community facilities to build a resilient and “future focused” community precinct incorporating advocacy and education components with seminars, presentations and EV trials scheduled at the new community house throughout 2022 and beyond.

*This project group is aware that the ZEN Inc. Noosa Community Battery Project group is submitting a CCRP CRP Budget bid for the first proof of concept community battery in consultation with Energex, with sites for future community batteries are still to be determined. The battery mentioned in this project a battery within the precinct at this point, with a possible extension to being a community battery site and/or Swap & Go battery hub in the future.
