YARRA ENERGY FOUNDATION’S FIRST COMMUNITY BATTERY IS SWITCHED ON

On Sunday 5 June, 2022, World Environment Day, Yarra Energy Foundation launched the first of what will be a fleet of Community Batteries in North Fitzroy in inner Melbourne.

Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) is a non-for-profit organisation supported by the Yarra Council with a bold plan to roll out 200 Community Batteries across the council area over the next 7 years. The business objective is to run these batteries for community benefit and without subsidies.

When Zero Emissions Noosa first heard of the YEF project 12 months ago, our Community Batteries Working Group was immediately attracted to their project as something that we would like to replicate in the Noosa region.

Together with Noosa Council and a team of other experts, we have been working with the YEF commercial program manager, Chris Wallin, to develop our plans. You can read more about ZEN’s initiative on our web pages here.

So a hearty congratulations to the YEF team and their partners for achieving the first of many community battery installations.
