JOB CREATION PROJECT IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19

It is clear that the economic impacts from Covid-19 for Noosa workers, especially in the tourism industry and linked sectors, are likely to be very significant and painful indeed for the individuals and families affected.  Significant job losses are likely and require caring and compassionate action from all levels of government.

ZEN has written to all council candidates asking if they have given any thought to the role that Noosa Council can play in minimising these impacts for Noosa workers.

We asked them if they would consider introducing an emergency employment creation package for workers who lose their jobs due to Covid-19 impacts, and suggested that the ZEN proposal for a massive urban pathway tree planting program might be one immediate possibility that could be considered.

Our reasons for suggesting the project are:

  1. It demonstrates Noosa Council's ability to respond quickly, pro-actively and compassionately to a unique challenge for our community.

  2. It does not require special skills and only limited training;

  3. It is scaleable

  4. It delivers urban improvement outcomes;

  5. It fits with Council's commitment to reduce carbon emissions;

  6. It fits with Council's transport strategy and planned Walking and Cycling Strategy

  7. It needs to be done NOW anyway if we are to have shade trees in 10 years’ time to cope with rising temperatures..

  8. It has been supported by all Council candidates in our recent questionnaire to them.

You will find the candidate responses below, in the order we have received them.
