Free Energy Home Visits for Queensland Renters in December!
Sign up for our free home energy service
Coming into the hot and humid months, renters often suffer from uncomfortable homes. So for a short time, a free home energy service is available for Queensland renters!
Energetic Communities in partnership with Tenants Queensland is running Empowering Renters, offering Free Residential Efficiency Scorecards and Advice for Renters.
They’re offering a free home energy service, including a Residential Efficiency Scorecard Rating and one-on-one advice sessions for a short time starting this week until the end of the year!
They’re based in SEQ and they can also come to regional Queensland if they can get a few households together. Use the link in the tile above to register.
About the Program
This is an extensive energy literacy and support program helping renters understand their energy bills, how they’re using energy, health impacts, reducing the impact of heat and cold, and what options they have as renters.
Renters often miss out on home energy programs, but now we have Empowering Renters a free program aimed at renters (developed by renters for renters), aimed to reduce costs, improve sustainability, and reduce the impact of hot and cold homes.
Free Home Energy Service
Funded by the Queensland Government, this free home energy service is takes approximately 2 hours at your home at a time that suits you. You don’t need landlord permission to participate (but great to if you have a supportive landlord):
Energetic Communities Association (ECAI) will complete a Residential Efficiency Scorecard, giving you an energy performance rating of your home.
While they’re doing that, Tenants Queensland (TQ) will sit down with you at your kitchen table and give you personalised assistance to understand your home, energy use, bills, what you can do as a renter (with and without landlord permission) and help identify any further assistance you may be eligible for.
Topics covered in the One-on-one assistance:
Tariffs: understand what tariffs you’re on. How they impact you and what would be good/more affordable for you.
What’s on the Bill: the different elements on the bills discussed, and assistance with ‘Energy Made Easy’ to find the best deal for the tenants.
Payment support: what rebates and concessions you may be eligible for.
What uses the most energy at your home: understanding your appliances, heating, cooling and hot water, efficiency and comfort feature you may not realise exist etc., and what you can in reality do about it as a renter in your home (Yes, it is in fact your home!).
Behaviours: What you can do to get the best outcomes for you - e.g. the most efficient ways to use aircon, curtains and drapes, even how best to use different window designs (and we’re still expecting the QLD gov to launch their Solar for Renters program).
Referrals out: Referrals to other supports you may be eligible for: e.g. Financial Counselling, QSTARS, retailers, Energy Made Easy, other.
